Madeline Island Song

By Billie Schaub & Maureen Muldoon

Mother Superior

Burn down, burn out, burn it bright

Sore eyes restored upon your site.

A holy house of blessed light

Taking us away from the fray of the way

that the world is today.

The priest and, pirates, poets come

There’s gospel here for everyone

Her skies are vast, her waters deep

and she has promises to keep

You gather in a pit of fire

add our voices to the choir

Arlo Guthrie and Billie Holliday

Weave their lyric on the shore

crooning there for evermore.

Mother Superior Island Queen

And babies smile, and young girls dream

and mother laughter like steam

Her skies are vast her waters deep

and she has promises to keep.

You gather around her sacred fire

Add your voices to the choir

Let your heartstrings come undone

The lupin bloom, the fox will run

Toss your care Into the sun

There’s gospel there for everyone

Pink skies at night, sailors delight

and grandma’s dishes on the shelf

Are here though she’s not herself

Her skies are vast, her waters deep

and she has promises to keep.

This is the place where we begin

Upon the shores of Madeline
