I have a wrinkle between my eyes. Some say that this is a “laugh-line”, and that’s sweet. But you and I both know that it’s actually my, “what-the-fuck-line.” It is a crease that has come with years of frowning and squinting and trying to make sense of life.

Sometimes I even look at my “what-the-fuck-line” and think, “WTF?”

I hear the whisper of “botox” creep through the floorboards and I try and fight it off by humming country songs about other people less fortunate than me.

SIDE NOTE: This does not work.

It’s not that I am opposed to Botox or boob jobs or body piercings. Do what you will, it’s your body! But I AM fascinated by another industry that seeks to seduce us into a box. A need to conform to a beauty standard that threatens to whitewash the jagged landscape of my well-lived life lines.

So I needed to tell you something today. As you step out or crawl into your Friday ritual… you are perfect.

There are so many flavors of beauty and YOURS is ravishing. I will no longer “tolerate the laugh lines” but celebrate them as a sign that I will NOT let my outside define my insides.

And if I should choose a tattoo or a tummy tuck or a tri-colored topknot… I choose it from a place of self-expression and not conformity. I want to be an example of radical and non-comforting beauty. I want to stand out, not blend in. I think I want that more than Botox right now. How bout you?

Rock your own beauty.

Take a breath and carve a message in my tree.
