I am pretty passionate about passion. Awakening people to their passion is what I do and I LOVE it.
Cultivating passion is an individual and inside job. We can help chart your course for your desired goal, but what we cannot give you is the fire in the belly. And the fire in the belly is everything. The presence, or lack of presence, of passion, is the very thing that will get you to the finish line or leave you stalled in your driveway.
When it comes to success, passion is priceless and cannot be purchased. And it’s not something you can fake. So, it’s good get honest about where your passion lives.
Having a clear vision is useless if you don’t have the passion to see it through. Like having a great GPS but no gas in the tank. So, getting in touch with your passion is a game changer. It’s also a bit of a risk, because passion is so quickly linked to obsession. Your fear, or ego, with tell you, “No, you will look foolish. You’ll look like a zealot. You’ll fail. You’ll fall. You’ll freeze and never recover.” You have to be brave enough and kind enough to say YES to yourself. YES, I am scared stiff, but I am doing it anyhow. I love this more.
No one loses passion; they just neglect to pay attention to it. It is sitting closer than your breath and it screams at you through the emotion of jealousy and anger when it is not cared for. So, instead of trying to forgive your jagged places of anger and jealousy, why not take them for the directional that they are? They are just pockets of passion that have been ignored.
I notice that when I work with clients who claim to be stuck, when I ask, “What do you love?” They are usually able to roll out a safe, cleaned up, and sensible list of generic and appropriate responses. But when I ask, “What do you hate?” They paint passionate pictures that could make me blush if I were the blushing type. Try it out for yourself. Grab a journal and let your demons loose on the page. What pisses you off? When you are done you’ll have a better idea about your own passion and purpose. You want to know and claim that thing, get up close and personal with it.
This is the thing that could get you running around the block naked.
That thing you would gladly do, in the dark, in the middle of the night, on a cold lonely street corner, with no one watching. The thing will make you leap from bed in the morning and burn the night oil.
The thing rattles your cage and makes you lean in and scares you silly. Be not afraid. Throw yourself into the fire. Because whether you do or you don’t, you will get burnt. That’s life. Everyone gets seared here. You might as well take your hits doing what you love. Do not save yourself for the perfect approach or the appropriate moment. Don’t sanitize the sensationalism of being awesome and audacious.
Live your life so that when the sand leaves the hourglass, you can stand in conviction and say, “I spent it. I lived on the cusp of fear and I stepping forward. I kicked fear’s ass.”
